A Chromebook is likely to eventually face common problems, such as slowdowns and freezes, that plague other operating systems. This is why it is important to be able to restart your Chromebook.
How to Restart Your Chromebook
While restarting your Google-powered laptop should be your last resort, it may be helpful if you encounter unexpected issues. Here are some of the most common reasons for restarting a Chromebook:
- It may be running noticeably slower than usual, or the screen may have frozen.
- You’ve recently installed a new update to your operating system or a few critical apps.
- Some of the apps on your computer are not opening and are taking longer to load.
- Your internet connection is suffering from lag.
- It will not connect to a WiFi network or other connectivity issues.
- The picture on your computer screen becomes distorted or displays weird colors.
Now that we’ve covered some issues that can be solved by restarting a Chromebook, we can move on. There are three methods for turning off and on the device. The method you use will depend on the nature of the problem you are trying to solve.
Shut Down Command
1. Open the Quick Menu
On the bottom-right corner of the taskbar, you’ll see your battery and WiFi icons, as well as the time. To bring up the Quick Menu, select within this area.
2. Select Shut Down
The Quick Menu appears at the bottom right of your screen. There is an icon with the power symbol on it. Click it to open the menu. Your Chromebook will save any data and work you have been working on automatically, and it will also make sure you are signed out of your Google account.
Step 3: Turn Device Back On
Once your Chromebook is completely powered off, you should press the physical power button on your keyboard to turn it back on.
Step 4: Hold Down the Power Button
To shut down your Chromebook, press and hold the physical power button on your keyboard. The first step is to press and hold the power button for about three seconds.
Doing so should result in your device saving whatever you’ve been working on, followed by signing out of your Google account, and ultimately powering itself down.
To power off your device, press and hold the power button for at least one second. Alternatively, you can bring up the Power Menu on your screen by pressing and holding the Power button. From here, you can choose to Power Off your device which will result in the same process as the above method.
Step 5: Turn Device Back On
To restart your Chromebook when it is completely turned off, press the power button on your keyboard once more. Get More Info…
