When you change your display name on Steam, you can choose a different name even if someone else is already using that name. Thanks to Steam’s ID system, every Steam user has a unique, unchangeable Steam ID. This is what Steam uses to identify users. What Is My Steam ID And How to Find It?

What Is a Steam ID and How Do I Get One?

A Steam ID, or Steam account name, is a 17-character string of digits that uniquely identifies each person on the platform. When linking other people to your profile, your Steam ID appears in the URL of your profile page (unless you’ve set your page to use a custom URL).

Your Steam ID is used to redirect others to your profile page and for use with third-party tools, such as SteamDB and Steam ID Finder. Some game companies may also ask you for your Steam ID so they can use their games and services.

The Steam ID is a unique identifier that can be used to log into your account, by virtue of it being the only piece of information required to connect a user’s computer and account. If you need to find your Steam ID, there are several ways to do so easily.
